Garden 2023 Tomatoes

We had Brandywine, Cherokee Purple, common Beefsteak, Big Rainbow, Jubilee(a golden varitey), Ruby Gold and Black Beauty. We had intentionally wanted to plant a LOT of San Marzano to make winter sauces, but for some reason this last spring, they were not being sold ANYWHERE. And we looked. Obviously this tomato is sought out after because of of its flavour and quality as a canning tomato. These are sometimes compared to the American version of Roma Tomato. Yet the San Marzano tomatoes are thinner and more piointed. THe flesh is much thicker with fewer seeds and the taste is stronger, sweeter and less acidic. The vines of the San Marzano are an indeterminatinate type and have a somewhat longer season than other paste tomato varieieites, making them particularly suitale for warmer climates. As is typical of heirloom plants, they have an open pollinated variety that breeds true from generation to generation, making seed saving practical for the home gardner. "me" Second from the bottom: platter of tomatoes. Purple Cherokee on the right side, Brandywine on the left side, and then the 3 in the middle are just beefsteaks.
