Cardinal

We have a resident couple that live directly behind us. The two have lived there since we moved in, and all these yeares later will be here when we leave. The male is the most ambitious of the pair, he is out scouring for food daily from about 4-430am till dark. Thankfully years previously they found their way into our little world and now that spring time is here we expect to see them almost on a daily basis.

Downey Woodpecker

This guy usually gets started around 430 every morning and lives on the next block to the north of us. Recently though he has found his way onto our patio. They normally feast on the insects they find as they dig into their trees, but they also love dried fruits and nuts(which is why this guy has began visiting us daily). They are so beautiful, especially when their winter coats are shed and replaced with the trademark black and white bodies with the males have the little tuft of red feathers on the head. They are the smallest of all wood peckers in the Americas.

Spring 2025 Wild life

Squirrels and rabbits are very well off up here. In addition to every other house having bird feeders, some of these larger mammals also are able to score some really cool treats.

May 2025 on Lill

This is my favorite time of the year here. It is so refreshing after yet another Long, Cold Chicago winter, one day you walk outside and it is spring. Seems like it just happens overnight most years.

These are all photos of the trees and flowers that line Lill up and down in the spring. In paticular are of the multiple varieties of cherry blossoms.
